Awards: Every April, the Department recognizes students who have earned awards and scholarships from the Department, College and University. Below is a list of the most recent chemistry awards and awardees selected by the Department .
NORTHERN WEST VIRGINIA SECTION AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY AWARD
The outstanding junior chemistry major who is also recognized at the Northern West Virginia American Chemical Society Spring Banquet. The awardee gets a subscription to the Journal of Chemical Education.

AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY AWARD
To an outstanding rising senior working in the area of analytical chemistry. The awardee receives a subscription to Analytical Chemistry and a certificate from the ACS.

SOCIETY FOR ANALYTICAL CHEMISTS OF PITTSBURGH AWARD
To an outstanding graduating senior. The awardee attends a dinner, and receives an award certificate, their name on a permanent plaque, and $300 cash award at a ceremony in Pittsburgh.

MERCK INDEX AWARD
An award sponsored by Merck to encourage careers in medically related areas. The awardee receives an embossed Merck Index mailed to his home.

AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF CHEMISTS AWARD
An award for overall excellence for a chemistry major. The awardee receives a membership in AIC, a listing in their directory and subscription to their journal.

HYPERCUBE SCHOLAR
An award for an outstanding undergraduate student going to graduate school. The awardee receives a framed certificate and molecular modeling software worth $1000.

JOHN H. STROHL CHEMISTRY 110 AWARD
An award for the top student in Chem 110 for 2004/05. The awardee receives $100, a certificate, and their name on a permanent plaque.

An award for the top student in Chem 112. The awardee receives a certificate and Merck Index.
CRC PRESS FRESHMAN ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Recognition for the student achieving the highest score on Chem 115 Final Exam in Fall 2004. The student?s overall academic performance is included in the selection process. The awardee receives a certificate and CRC Handbook with name plate.

WHITEHILL AWARDS
Students take the Whitehill exam in General Chemistry on a Saturday morning. Students with the top five scores receive cash awards & certificates. More importantly, they get to skip their final exam that semester.
