The C. Eugene Bennett Department of Chemistry at West Virginia University invites applications for a 12 month chemistry education postdoc appointment. The successful applicant will be expected to research, develop, and implement general chemistry experiments and curricular materials that 1) provide intrusive career mentoring, 2) focus on societal context, 3) enhance technical expertise through modern instrumentation, and 4) provide role models for groups underrepresented in STEM disciplines. Research activities that measure the success of this approach will be implemented throughout and the successful applicant is expected to publish in the chemistry education literature. Preferred start date is December 1, 2008, through November 30, 2009. January 1 start is negotiable.
Applicants with a Ph.D. or ABD with a specialization in chemistry education research are encouraged to apply. Graduates with a degree in a more traditional area of chemistry, who are interested in shifting their focus to chemistry education research, or with a background in science education will be considered.
